As I have changed my novel's genre from sci-fic to young adult, there is some (very little) romance in my novel. Surprising, I know, for someone who doesnt like romance. But i guess writing romance is not as easy as I tot. The hardest part is thinking of original romantic dialogue followed by creating chemistry between the two characters. I can't create chemistry for God's sake. According to Mic, who says romance novels nids lots of UST (unresolved sexual tension) to make it nice. But i can't even create chemistry between two, how can i create UST. I went back to read the dialogue between two of my characters, they sound more like enemies than would-be-lovers. Here goes:Him: You remind me of the sea.
Her: Hmm..why? Is it because I am wild and romantic?
Him: Er...nope. It's because you make me sick. (He is sea sick)
Now you get my point. If the above dialogue sounds famaliar, I think you probably read it somewhere. I think i read it somewhere b4, but i dun rmb. Anyway, so i deleted the above dialogue and wrote something more , ahem, romantic.Him: Why did you want to be with me? Are you stupid? You know i am going to
die, i won't give u any stupid happiness! Being with me will only guarantee more
pain than good. Tell me why you want to be with me?
Her: Because being with you is not something, it's kind of
everything.
Him: ... (i wanted to write that he rolled his eyeball but that would spoil
the mood, so no)
I think this is more romantic compared to the previous one, but somehow, I find the girl very slutty after saying that. So again i deleted it. And now, this scene has no dialogue at all. Cue intensed, prolonged stare. So this two are kind of juz staring at each other without saying anything. (But isnt that kind of romantic too?)Mic was so angry after reading it that she threatened to make me watch hundreds of chick flicks until i can write a proper scene. If there is one thing i hate more than chick lit, it's romantic comedies. So i am gonna squeeze all my brain juice and think of a nice, not so slutty dialogue.For those who duno wat my novel is about, it's abt 10 diff ppl and their lives. So i will write the story of each of these people. But these people are related to each other. Cousins, uncles, etc. Their story is interconnected, hence the title. There is a common theme for all these stories and that is love. But only one of them is romantic love. The rest is all fatherly love, friend love, watever love, but juz not love in the romantic kind of way.P.S. I am doing a bit of romance for NaNo this yr so that i wont have to do it again next yr. At least, Mic cant say I did not try to write romance.Piggies are so kawaii!!!
